Does the 2020 Kia Sorento Stack Up Against the 2019 Ford Edge?
If you’re in the market for a new crossover SUV that can go above and beyond, the 2020 Kia Sorento and 2019 Ford Edge are leaders in their class. While the Sorento started out as a compact crossover SUV, it has now emerged as one of the best midsize vehicles on the market with third row seating and a range of advanced safety technology.
Yet, many consumers are wondering does the 2020 Kia Sorento have the edge on the 2019 Ford Edge? Let’s take a look at the head-to-head matchup between the 2020 Kia Sorento and the 2019 Ford Edge. Got questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out to the experts at Ed Voyles Kia of Chamblee.
Features of the 2020 Kia Sorento vs the 2019 Ford Edge
Undoubtedly, one of the most important factors when considering different midsize SUVs are its features. While every top-of-the-line SUV trim comes loaded, the best SUVs will offer generous amenities on the entry-level trim as well. For example, the available options for the Kia Sorento LX (entry-level trim) include:
- Automatic climate control
- Heated front seats
- Mirrors with memory setting
- Power driver’s seat
If you were to try to get these same features on the Edge, you’d have to open your wallet significantly and step up to the SEL trim, which is substantially more. All Kia Sorentos come with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on a standard 7-inch base infotainment screen; while the standard infotainment screen on the Edge is 4.2 inches, and you’ll have to pay more for CarPlay and Android Auto.
For the most and newest features at the best value, consider the premium Sorento Limited trim, which comes loaded with a panoramic sunroof, push-button start, Navigation with voice command on massive 8-inch display, and heated rear seats. Simply put, the Kia Sorento offers more for less at any trim level.
Passenger Space in the 2020 Kia Sorento and the 2019 Ford Edge
When it comes to the amount of passenger space offered, the Kia Sorento is in a class of its own. For starters, the Sorento offers comfortable seating for up to seven passengers and a maximum 154 cubic feet, while the Edge can only seat five and offers 114 cubic feet at its most spacious. The Sorento’s third-row seating is also not available on the Edge.
The Kia Sorento also boasts substantially more cargo space. With the Edge only offering 32.2 cubic feet, the Sorento opens up to a generous 36.9 cubic feet. Taller drivers and passengers consider the Sorento an SUV go-tothanks to its impressive 44.1 inches of front leg room, while the Edge lumbers behind with a cramped 42.6 inches.
Towing Performance of the 2020 Kia Sorento the 2019 Ford Edge
The new 2020 Kia Sorento offers two different engines designed specifically for strength and versatility:
- 4 Liter DOHC 4-Cylinder engine that pumps out 185 HP and 178 lb.-ft. of torque; or
- 3 Liter DOHC V6 that delivers 290 HP and an impressive 252 lb.-ft. of torque.
The standard engine on the Ford Edge is the 2.0L turbocharged engine, which produces similar, but a little less impressive HP and torque when compared to the Sorento’s 4 cylinder engine. However, the base 2.4L Sorento engine can tow 500 pounds more than the Ford Edge’s base engine. If you need more towing power for work or play, the Kia Sorento’s 3.3 liter engine can tow up to 5,000 pounds when paired with the AWD drivetrain.
